DOI SUTHEP-PUI NATIONAL PARK |
Doi Suthep-Pui National Park’s former name was Doi Aoi Chang and received “Suthep” from the name of “Wasuthep Ascetic” who prayed on this mountain. The park was designated a national park of Thailand. Doi Suthep, Doi Buakhad, and Doi Pui are the three main peaks in the park, which encompasses 2625 square kilometers in all. |

The highest peak, Doi Buakhad, rises to 1685 meters above sea level. Because of the high attitude, the weather or the upper slopes of the mountains is cool and pleasant all year, even in hot season. In the cool season, the air is cold and clear. Temperatures can drop as low as 6 degrees Celsius in February. August and September are the wettest months, with rain falling daily. |
FLORA AND FAUNA |

The park’s mountains are covered with deciduous, mixed (Pine), and evergreen forests. Common species are many Dipterocarpus, including Teng and Rang (also known as Sal trees), Pradu (Pterocarpus macrocarpus), Salao (Lagerstroemia tomentosa), and many species of oaks and chestnuts. |

Wildlife in the park includes barking deer, sambar deer, bear gibbons, and macaques. More than 200 species of birds can be seen here, including jungle fowl, pheasants, eagles, parrots and parakeets, bulbuls, and minivets. |
HIGHLIGHT AND TOURIST ATTRACTIONS |

Phuping Palace is the royal residence located near the top of Doi Buakhad. Many foreign dignitaries come to this palace to meet members of the royal family. The palace has a botanical garden, which grows many kind of beautiful flowers. The botanical garden is open to visitors on weekends and public holidays. |

Wat Phra Tat Doi Suthep is the holy place of Buddhist and Lanna history. It located on Doi Suthep Amphur Muang, Chiang Mai province. The monument was established on B.E. 1927 (1384), there is 300 steps naga stair spread to the upper building. The building is Peguan style chedi, which contained remain of Lord Buddha.

A memorial statue to Cru Siwichai at the base of the mountain welcomes pilgrims and travelers alike. Cru Siwichai was a teacher and a forest monk. He was a very wise man and the spiritual leader of the local people. People still come to this site to pay homage to Cru Siwichai before they ascend the mountain to make merit at Wat Pratat Doi Suthep, which is the spiritual center of Chiang Mai. |
Huay Kaew Waterfall is located near the Cru Siwichai Memorial, not far from the main road. You can walk to Wang Bua Ban, beautiful pool at the base of the waterfall.
Montathan Waterfall is a beautiful, three-tiered waterfall that flows over a cliff. It is about 3 kilometers from Huay Kaew Waterfall.
Mae Sa Falls is a loverly set of eight falls that a good flow of water all year long. The falls are all separated by a distance of 100 to 500 meters. |

Beyond there are many attractions such as Doi Pui summit, hill tribe village, cliffs-Ngub Cliff, Lad Cliff, Wang Bua Ban Cliff, Dam Cliff, and many others offer spectacular vistas of the park and city below.
FACILITIES
The park operates campground but tourists have to bring their own tent and equipment. Restaurants operate near the headquarters all years.
HOW TO GET THERE
Doi Suthep-Pui National Park is located 16km. from the city of Chiang Mai. Minibuses ascend the mountain from a station in front of Chiang Mai Zoo and travel to Wat Pratat Doi Suthep. The Headquarters is a short walk beyond the Wat and is located in the right hand side of the road.
