Surat Thani ( Koh Samui, Koh Pha-ngan and Koh Tao) |
Surat Thani ( often known as Surat in short ) is the largest province of the South with a name that literally means "City of the Good People". The west of the province has high plateaus and forested mountains, while there are low basins in the center and along the eastern coast.
A must-visit spot is Phra Boromthat Chaiya, with its authentic Srivijaya architecture. Its beautiful 1,200-year-old chedi contains relics of the Buddha, while the nearby national museum contains statues and artifacts discovered in Chaiya.
The numerous islands along the coast make Surat Thani a perfect hideaway for vacationers from around the world.
The popular destinations for many are Koh Samui, Thailand's third largest island, Koh Pha-ngan a celebrated island that hosts the biggest beach full moon party and Koh Tao.
